Our Setting Out Engineers in London Offer:
Our London setting-out engineers extract precise coordinate and dimensional data from both 2D drawings and advanced 3D models before any work begins on site.
This preparation ensures that the design intent is clearly defined and accurately transferred to the ground once construction starts.
Our setting out engineers in London provide:
Precise coordinate and dimensional data extraction from 2D drawings and 3D construction models prior to any setting-out work.
Physical marking of the locations and dimensions for structural elements such as foundations, walls, highways and service routes using high-precision surveying equipment.
Specialist positioning for complex structural elements including curved structures, raking columns, base plates, anchor bolt grids and precast components.
Comprehensive digital documentation with time-stamped photographs and field data records to provide a transparent and auditable quality assurance trail.
Ongoing verification checks during construction to ensure all structural elements remain accurately aligned with the design specifications.
Why Partner with SEP for Setting Out Engineers in London?
A setting out engineer plays a vital role in translating architectural drawings and engineering models into accurate physical positions on site.
In a city like London, where projects often involve tight spaces, complex infrastructure and strict regulatory requirements, this level of accuracy is essential.
Without professional setting out, even small coordinate discrepancies can quickly escalate into serious construction issues.
Misaligned foundations, incorrect levels or incorrectly positioned structural elements can lead to expensive rework, programme delays and potential structural risks.
By ensuring that construction begins with precise positioning and continues to be checked throughout the build, a setting out engineer provides the dependable framework needed for a successful project.

How We Deliver Excellence Across Greater London
Our process begins with the extraction of precise coordinate data from project design files, typically provided in AutoCAD drawings or BIM models.
Once on site, we establish a control network made up of fixed reference points that allow all future measurements to remain consistent and accurate across the entire project area.
Using advanced surveying technology, including Leica and Trimble robotic total stations and high-precision GNSS equipment, our engineers transfer the design coordinates directly onto the construction site. These instruments allow us to position points with millimetre-level precision.
Each coordinate is physically marked on site so construction teams can begin building with confidence that everything is correctly positioned.
As the project progresses, we carry out ongoing verification checks to confirm that structures remain aligned with the original design. These checks help identify any discrepancies early, preventing delays and ensuring construction quality is maintained.
About SEP Engineers: Central London Site Engineers
Our team of experienced engineers pride themselves on adaptability, with experience working on a wide range of construction projects, from large-scale commercial developments to civil engineering works.
We know that no two construction sites are the same, and our approach is tailored to your needs. We provide support at a time and pace that suits you, whether that’s with a full-time, part-time, or ad-hoc engineer.
All of our engineers have a minimum of five years of site experience and are qualified to operate in high-risk environments.
The number of site visits a setting out engineer in Worcester requires will vary, depending on the scale of the construction project, its complexity, and risk level.
How accurate is SEP Engineers’ setting out service?
Our setting out adheres to construction tolerances of ±3mm for primary control and ±5mm for structural elements, verified through rigorous QA checks and digital data logging.
My project is considered high risk – are SEP Engineers qualified to provide setting out services in high risk environments?
Yes – all of our engineers have a minimum of five years of site experience, and are site-vetted for high-risk applications, such as nuclear and rail.
